Turisas - Battle Metal
Reviewed by Jan F. Lindsø in 7/27/2004

Turisas was actually the name of an ancient Finnish war god, and it`s here they got there band name. It’s strange that I haven’t heard about this band before, because they have already released a demo before this debut album. I’m pretty into Finnish metal like this, so I don’t know why I haven’t heard about Turisas before.

The first thing I thought when I started to listen to "Battle Metal" was that this record sounded like a combination of Ensiferum and Bal Sagoth. The folk style was obvious here, but also the glorious power metal parts. It sounds like the band uses a lot of additional instruments and techniques to make the CD the masterpiece it is. Many people would probably say that this record is quite unoriginal. I would say it`s a further step for the Finnish power-...erm, battle-metal.
